Canadian Wildfire Smoke Drifting Into CT Triggering Alerts: Check Your Town's Index
With summer-like heat moving in, health officials have issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for much of New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and the Philadelphia metro area on Wednesday, June 4 (scroll down to check your town's air quality index).
The alerts, in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., warn that ground-level ozone pollution could reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and those with heart or lung disease, authorities in each state said. Click here to see today's air quality forecast.

Severe Weather Threat Upgraded For Region: Here's Time Frame For Approaching Thunderstorms
The threat of severe weather from an approaching round of thunderstorms has just been upgraded for most of the region.
Storm activity is expected from west to east from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, April 1.
The area covers New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, and Orange counties, and Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties in Connecticut. (See the image above.)

Gannett Lays Off Staffers Across Region, Nation Following $54 Million Quarterly Loss
The largest newspaper publisher in the United States has laid off employees at newspapers across the country following a nearly $54 million quarterly loss, according to multiple news outlets.
Gannett's layoffs on Friday, Aug. 12, impacted numerous newsrooms, according to a report from Poynter. Gannett has not released information on the number of employees who were laid off, how many of its 250 newspapers were affected, or whether there will be further staffing cuts.
Gannett, which owns USA Today, reported a $53.7 million net loss in its second-quarter report.
