Man Sentenced In Fires That Destroyed Historic Eastford Church, Woodstock Buildings
A teenager who set a string of arson fires, including one that destroyed a nearly 200-year-old Connecticut church, will spend at least three years in prison, authorities announced. The man pleaded guilty in June to a string of 2023 fires when he was 17 years old, the State's Attorney's Office said on Tuesday, Sept. 23. More than a decade after a house fire killed a father and three children, and seriously injured a fourth in upstate New York, a longtime suspect has been federally charged. Edward Leon, 53, of Fultonville, was indicted this week by a federal grand jury on a charge of malicious use of fire to destroy property resulting in death, according to the US Attorney’s Office in Albany. Man Guilty Of CT Cold Case Murder Sentenced To 40 Years In Prison: State
A New Mexico man has been sentenced to four decades in prison for the murder of a Windsor man 17 years ago. Mark White, 47, was found guilty by a Hartford jury in March for the 2008 shooting of 25-year-old Jumar Joiner, the State Division of Criminal Justice announced. The crime happened on West Morningside Street in Hartford. Police said Joiner was shot several times. A 73-year-old Connecticut man admitted this week to filming himself sexually abusing a child and sharing it online, federal authorities said. Orlando Guzman, of New Britain, pleaded guilty to child exploitation offenses stemming from his sexual abuse of a minor and sharing and receiving child sexual abuse material, the US Attorney for Connecticut said. Declan Kot, age 24, of Easton, Nov. 10 was sentenced to 20 years, suspended after serving seven years. A Massachusetts man was sentenced to 40 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Nicholas Briggs, age 22, of Worcester, was sentenced on Monday, Aug. 30 by U.S. District Court Judge Timothy S. Hillman to prison time as well as three years of supervised release.
