Fourteen people, including multiple former high school and college wrestlers, are facing charges for their roles in a multimillion-dollar sports betting ring operated by members of the Lucchese crime family, officials said Thursday, Nov. 13.
The head of the illegal operation was identified as Joseph M. “Little Joe” Perna, 55, of Fairfield, according to New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin.

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas has been arrested and charged in a sprawling federal case accusing him and others of running high-stakes illegal poker games out of his mansion in California.
Arenas, 43, who the centerpiece for the Washington Wizards for years, was taken into custody Wednesday, July 30, along with five others, including a suspected high-ranking member of an Israeli transnational organized crime group, federal prosecutors said.

Police in Fairfield County arrested the first of several anticipated in connection with the shooting deaths of two armed men who robbed an illegal gambling club earlier this year.
Sean Ellam, age 38, of Bridgeport, turned himself in to detectives on Tuesday, May 28, on an active felony warrant for the Saturday, March 30 incident in Bridgeport.

Eight New York members of organized crime families, including six from Long Island, are among nine men who have been charged by federal authorities with racketeering and related offenses.

Alleged members of the Genovese Organized Crime Family from Westchester and Fairfield counties are facing racketeering charges for their roles within the organization.
