Los Garcia Mexican Fusion, located in New Haven County at 836 East Main St. in Waterbury, was named the best taco restaurant in Connecticut in Yelp's "Best Taco Spot in Every State" report for 2024.
The eatery, composed of an RV-sized trailer with an outdoor patio, a small building with indoor seating, and a smaller food truck, specializes in freshly made tacos with flour tortillas.
According to Yelp's write-up, the spot is known for al pastor, which consists of slow-roasted pork sliced straight from a vertical rotisserie called a trompo.
Other popular menu items include shrimp, carnitas, and lengua (tongue) tacos, Yelp writers said.
As would be expected for the state's No. 1 taco restaurant, the place has earned countless five-star reviews on Yelp.
"Best tacos in CT or in general idc what anyone's says !" wrote C.F. of Waterbury, adding, "I've gone to a lot of taco trucks all around ct even been to Mexico Cancun & Tulum, when I tell you once I came back into the states I went straight here."
Jason P. of Newington also left a raving review, calling the restaurant's food "bursting with flavor."
"My oversized shrimp taco in particular was terrific. The shrimp were cooked perfectly," he wrote, continuing, "In addition to cabbage, cilantro, tomato and avocado, there was some sort of mango-type purée that took the taco next level."
Los Garcia has not only been recognized by Yelp; it was also named a top Connecticut taco spot by Connecticut Magazine in April.
