Chaos in Newtown: Woman Triggers Police Standoff, Teen Charged With Attempted Murder Nearby Police in Fairfield County were busy with two major calls Tuesday, Jan. 3, following a stand-off with a 26-year-old woman and a teenager accused of attempted murder and carjacking. All happening within a few blocks. NJ Man Who Stabbed Salman Rushdie On NY Stage Sentenced To Decades In Prison A New Jersey man who nearly killed world-renowned author Salman Rushdie in a knife attack on a New York stage has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Hadi Matar, 27, of Fairview, NJ, was sentenced Friday, May 16, in Chautauqua County Court after a jury found him guilty in February of attempted murder and assault. The charges stem from a brutal ambush on Aug. 12, 2022, when Matar stormed the stage at the Chautauqua Institution, stabbing Rushdie more than a dozen times in front of a stunned audience. CT Man Convicted in Brutal Near-Fatal Stabbing of Neighbor A Connecticut man has been convicted of a violent knife attack that left his neighbor with a life-threatening injury, authorities said.  Felix Arroyo, 66, of New Britain, was found guilty of assault in the first degree after prosecutors proved he stabbed his neighbor on Tremont Street during a dispute on Sept. 5, 2021. The attack caused severe damage to the victim’s liver, according to evidence presented at trial. The verdict was announced by State’s Attorney Christian M.
