Police in Fairfield County were busy with two major calls Tuesday, Jan. 3, following a stand-off with a 26-year-old woman and a teenager accused of attempted murder and carjacking. All happening within a few blocks. The ordeal began around 2 p.m. when police officers in Newtown were called to a house near the intersection of Park and Greenbriar Lanes to help with a Department of Children and Families investigation. A New Jersey man who nearly killed world-renowned author Salman Rushdie in a knife attack on a New York stage has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Hadi Matar, 27, of Fairview, NJ, was sentenced Friday, May 16, in Chautauqua County Court after a jury found him guilty in February of attempted murder and assault. The charges stem from a brutal ambush on Aug. 12, 2022, when Matar stormed the stage at the Chautauqua Institution, stabbing Rushdie more than a dozen times in front of a stunned audience. CT Man Convicted in Brutal Near-Fatal Stabbing of Neighbor
A Connecticut man has been convicted of a violent knife attack that left his neighbor with a life-threatening injury, authorities said. Felix Arroyo, 66, of New Britain, was found guilty of assault in the first degree after prosecutors proved he stabbed his neighbor on Tremont Street during a dispute on Sept. 5, 2021. The attack caused severe damage to the victim’s liver, according to evidence presented at trial. The verdict was announced by State’s Attorney Christian M. Watson on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
