The man was found around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28 by a bicyclist passing by the scene of the crash in Hampshire County down a steep embankment in Williamsburg, said Laurie Loisel, director of Communications for the Northwest District Attorney's Office.

According to Loisel, the vehicle could not be seen by passing motorists, and it is unknown exactly when the crash occurred.

State Police said when they arrived on the scene, they found a 2004 MINI Cooper that, for reasons still under investigation, left the roadway and crashed down an embankment.

Troopers located Hampshire County resident Allen R. Tautznik Jr., a resident of Easthampton, who had been ejected from the vehicle. He was declared dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and Tautznik was the sole occupant in the vehicle, state police said.

The cause of the crash continues to be investigated by the Massachusetts State Police.
