Born in Washington, D.C. in 1954, Todd moved to Hartford during his childhood. He attended local schools, including Hartford Public High School, and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 450 at Mt. Calvary Church in Hartford's North End.
Todd's passion for acting led him to study at the University of Connecticut. He continued his education at the Eugene O'Neill National Actors Theatre Institute and the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island.
Todd appeared in over 200 films and television shows during his lengthy Hollywood career, including films like "Platoon," "The Rock," and multiple entries in the "Final Destination" series. His deep, booming voice made him a hot commodity as a voice actor as well, appearing as The Fallen in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
However, he is best known for his role as the title killer character in the "Candyman" series, which made him a horror movie icon on the level of Freddy Kreuger, Jason Voorhees, or Michael Myers
His "Candyman" Virginia Madsen co-star posted a tearful memorial to Todd on Instagram shortly after his death.
Despite his Hollywood success, Todd remained connected to Connecticut. In 2017, he returned to Hartford to perform in TheaterWorks' production of "Sunset Baby."
Todd leaves behind his wife and two children.
