A man is facing charges after police said a traffic stop led to the discovery of a firearm and ammunition in Western Massachusetts. Troopers were patrolling Route 91 in Springfield at about midnight on Thursday, Dec. 23, when they saw a black BMW sedan near Exit 8 with a Vermont paper temporary license plate that wasn't valid, according to Massachusetts State Police. Police apprehended a Western Massachusetts man for illegal possession of a handgun during a traffic stop in which he was allegedly traveling over 95 miles per hour. Hampden County resident Carlos Garcia, age 21, of Springfield, was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 11, after state police troopers pulled him over on Route 91 in a Honda SUV traveling more than 95 miles per hour, Massachusetts State Police said. Duo Nabbed Trafficking Heroin In Region, Police Say
Two people were arrested after a traffic stop in Western Massachusetts led to the discovery of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Troopers were patrolling Route 91 in Franklin County in the town of Greenfield at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, when they saw a blue Toyota sedan going about 70 miles per hour in a construction zone with a speed limit of 55, Massachusetts State Police reported. A man and a woman were busted for alleged trafficking in cocaine and fentanyl after being stopped in Western Mass for having a broken brake light and for speeding in a construction zone. ID Released For Woman Killed In Wrong-Way Western Mass Crash
The identity has been released for a woman killed in a fatal, wrong-way crash in Western Massachusetts. It happed around noontime on Saturday, April 3, in Holyoke on Route 91. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2005 Mercedes-Benz operated by a 69-year-old Holyoke woman, now identified as Debra Palata, was traveling southbound on the northbound side of Route 91 in Holyoke, Massachusetts State Police said.
