'Heartbreaking': CT High School Senior Killed In Crash With Dump Truck
School officials in Connecticut announced to parents that a Fairfield County high school senior was killed in a car crash on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Max Harper, an 18-year-old senior at Staples High School, collided with a fully loaded dump truck on Old Hill Road near Patrick Road as they negotiated a difficult turn in opposite directions, Westport Police said. A Connecticut man who crashed his Chevy Malibu and then attempted to swim across a pond to get away died in the water. The incident occurred in Tolland County around 10 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, in Vernon. Vernon Police Lt. Robert Marra said officers responded to the crash on Snipsic Street and East Main Street. A 51-year-old man was killed in the third fatal wreck in the Western Massachusetts county in as many days, authorities said. In Hampshire County, the Belchertown man was the only person in the vehicle when it crashed on Sunday, July 21, around 7:45 p.m. on Washington Street in Belchertown, the Northwestern District Attorney's Office said.
