West Hartford residents are being treated to an unexpected guest — a young black bear who seems to enjoy a particular neighborhood. While there’s no immediate danger, officials are asking everyone to stay calm, stay safe, and be "bear aware." Man Injured By Black Bear While Checking Noise Outside Home In Area
A New York man was injured by a black bear after going outside to see what was in his garbage can. The attack happened around 11 p.m., Friday, June 4 in Sullivan County in the hamlet of Rock Hill. The homeowner heard a noise near the trash containers, went outside, and was reportedly scratched by the bear, said officials with the state Department of Environmental Conservation. The man received mild injuries but was transported to the hospital for treatment, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office said. Fairfield County Town Sees Increase In Bear Sightings, Police Say
A Fairfield County town is warning residents of multiple black bear sightings in the area. On Sunday, May 31, there were multiple black bear sightings reported in the northern section of Westport. The bear was first reported to be in the area of Weathervane Hill and then was seen by Earthplace which is located off Woodside Lane, said Westport Police Lt. David Wolf. Brand-New Sighting: Black Bear Finds Its Own Way To Enjoy Sunday Brunch
There have been dozens of reported black bear sightings in the area the last month. Including at a golf course. Even a cemetery. And now, most recently, a bear in the Hudson Valley making its own morning meal with the contents of garbage cans. The bear was captured on camera in the Dutchess County town of Union Vale on Sunday morning, July 26. (See first image above.)
