Josue Ortega-Torres admitted on Tuesday, March 11, to killing 44-year-old Justin Sloan Sr. on Hanover Drive in Meriden on July 8, 2023, the State's Attorney's Office said. He will be sentenced to 25 years in prison on May 8, per a sentencing agreement.

Investigators said surveillance video captured Ortega-Torres, his clothing, and his car as it left the scene of the stabbing. He went home after the attack and tried to conceal the vehicle and his clothes, but police tracked him down, authorities said.

He refused to come out once they arrived, and after making comments about having a gun in the home, police blocked off the area for a lengthy stand-off, authorities said. He eventually surrendered.

Paramedics rushed Sloan to MidState Medical Center, where doctors attempted to save his life but were unsuccessful, authorities said.
