The Wrangler flipped on its roof and burst into flames. Bystanders pulled the driver of the Jeep from the burning vehicle, and paramedics rushed them to a hospital, where they were recovering. Bystanders Pull Driver From Burning Car In Deadly Route 66 Crash A violent, fiery crash on Route 66 in Middlefield left one person dead and another with serious injuries late Friday night, Aug. 29. The two-vehicle crash happened just before midnight near Baileyville Road, when the cars collided head-on, Middlefield firefighters said. The impact caused one car to roll over and catch fire. Witnesses immediately called 911, but several didn’t wait for first responders. Instead, they rushed toward the burning, upside-down vehicle and pulled the driver out. Drunk CT Driver Causes Power Outage, Route 66 Closure After Hitting Utility Pole: Cops A single-car crash early Thursday morning snapped a utility pole in half, draped power lines across Route 66, and led to the arrest of a local driver for driving under the influence. Gabriel Brown, 26, of East Hampton, was driving a gray Ford Crown Victoria when he crashed into the utility pole around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, near 426 West Main St. in Hebron, Connecticut State Police said. The crash forced authorities to close the highway while crews worked to clear the scene.
