Food Sold At Big Y Linked To Nationwide Salmonella Outbreak, FDA Says Big Y Foods has recalled several types of sandwiches and wraps at more than two dozen stores as part of a nationwide salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers. The recall covers any small or large sub, 30-inch Super Sub, wrap, or panini made fresh at the deli counter, the Food and Drug Administration said. The sandwiches weren't prepackaged and were made on Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 21. Big Y said the sliced cucumbers came from Smartcuts, which was affected by Bedner Growers' salmonella outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention previously said the cucumbers …

Ellington Woman Killed In Snowmobile Crash At Tolland County Ski Resort, Passenger Hurt A 49-year-old woman was killed this week after the snowmobile she was piloting crashed at a Tolland County resort, authorities said.  Jamie Gallicchio, of Ellington, was involved in a crash around 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Sun Valley Resort at 51 Old Springfield Rd. in Stafford, police said.  Gallicchio was ejected from the snowmobile in the crash. 60-Year-Old Killed After Car Veers Off Windsor Highway, Crashes Into Sign, Trees A 60-year-old Connecticut man was killed in an early morning crash on New Year's Eve when his car crashed, authorities said.  James Engel, of Ellington, was driving on Route 20 around 12:30 a.m. when for an unknown reason, his Chevrolet Cobalt veered off the right shoulder of the road near the I-91 North connector, Connecticut State Police said.  The car went through a grassy area and crashed into a road sign and two trees.  Paramedics rushed Engel to Hartford Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.  The crash remains under investigation. Unidentified Person Killed After Car Hits Tree, Bursts Into Flames In CT Authorities are working to identify a person killed in a fiery crash in Connecticut.  The crash happened in Tolland County on Monday, Nov. 25 just before 8 p.m., when a 2016 Kia Sorento Lx speeding in a westbound direction on Sandy Beach Road in Ellington lost control and hit a tree head-on, according to the Connecticut State Police.
