Tyler Grimes, 40, of Goshen, was arrested following a welfare check at his home. When officers arrived, they noted the property was in severe disrepair, with overgrown landscaping and ajar doors. A strong odor of decay prompted them to enter, where they discovered unsanitary and unsafe living conditions.
Authorities found Grimes’ dog, Gonzo, suffering from severe malnourishment, chronic infections, and overgrown nails that had deformed his feet. A second animal, a cat named Little Cat, was also emaciated and dehydrated. A dead and decaying dog, Harlem, was found in the home, appearing malnourished with bones visibly protruding beneath its skin.
Witness statements indicated Grimes had been leaving the animals unattended for days at a time without food or water. Graham reported that Gonzo had previously escaped and was found wandering in traffic last year.
A veterinarian’s examination confirmed the surviving animals were severely neglected, leading authorities to remove them from Grimes’ custody.
Grimes has been charged with three counts of animal cruelty and was being held on a $75,000 bond.
