The Long Hill Fire Department, along with Trumbull Center, Nichols, and Monroe Fire Departments, responded to a structure fire on Hitching Post Lane at 3:17 a.m., fire officials said in a news release. Trumbull Woman, Dog Swept Away By Flood Waters Rescued By Police, Fire A Fairfield County woman became stuck in the raging river after she went in to save her dog and had to be rescued by police and fire personnel. The incident occurred in Trumbull around 10:15 a.m., Monday, Aug. 19, when her dog was swept away in the Pequonnock River. Trumbull Police rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call that the Trumbull resident was on the phone with her friend when her dog went into the river and got swept away, the department said.
