Firefighters were called to the construction equipment fire on Betmarlea Road around 3 p.m. The blaze, which produced thick smoke in the residential area, was contained without any injuries reported.
The state remains under a severe fire warning as dry conditions and high winds have turned much of the underbrush into a tinderbox. Containing small fires before they can spread into larger ones is key.
Fire crews used an absorbent material to minimize the amount of diesel and other fluids from seeping into nearby water sources, the Norwalk Fire Department said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
