Tropical Storm Chantal Named Off Atlantic Coast: Here's New Projected Path
A system off the Atlantic Coast has just strengthened to become a tropical storm. Chantal formed off the southeast coast just after 8 a.m. Saturday, July 5, the National Hurricane Center said. The storm, packed with 40 mph winds, is located about 150 miles off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina. It is moving north-northwest at about 2 mph. A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for portions of the Carolinas, and tropical storm conditions are expected to begin in that area later Saturday. Stormy Start To Weekend Will Be Followed By Change In Weather Pattern
Showers and thunderstorms will make for a dreary first half of the weekend before a change in the weather pattern arrives. Up to 1.5 inches of precipitation is possible on Saturday, April 26, AccuWeather says. After the storm clears out, strong winds will move in on Sunday, April 27. It will be a dry day with a mix of sun and clouds and temps below the seasonable average. Wind gusts will top out at about 25 mph. S'mores Started Massive Brush Fire Outside Hamptons, Officials Say
A family attempting to make s’mores in their backyard accidentally sparked several brush fires that burned hundreds of acres on Long Island, authorities said. An investigation by Suffolk County Police Arson Section detectives determined that high winds spread embers from a Manorville backyard on Cozine Road after the family attempted to start a fire for s’mores, the agency announced Monday, March 10. “It’s believed strong winds spurred additional fires from embers leading to the brush fires,” Suffolk County Police said. Severe Storms, Possible Tornadoes Fueled By Beryl's Remnants To Hit Northeast: Timing, Track
Numerous clusters of severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and possible isolated tornadoes fueled by the remnants of Beryl are headed to the Northeast. Beryl, which made landfall along the Texas coast as a Category 1 hurricane on Monday, July 8, will move into upstate New York and northern New England on Wednesday, July 10, starting late in the afternoon and continuing overnight.
