The blaze broke out at 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 13, in North Front Street in the city of Harrisburg in Dauphin County.
Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement they has confirmed that the fire was a deliberate act of arson. The alleged arsonist has since been identified and arrested, click here to read our full report.
The Shapiro family was located in a different part of the mansion and was safely evacuated without injury, state police said.
The fire caused significant damage to a portion of the residence, but it was successfully extinguished by firefighting crews.
"Every day, we stand with the law enforcement and first responders who run towards danger to protect our communities," Shapiro wrote in a statement on social media late Sunday morning. "Last night, they did so for our family – and Lori and I are eternally grateful to them for keeping us safe."
The 51-year-old Shapiro has rapidly risen to become a national political figure. He is seen as one of the leading contenders for the Democratic nomination for president in 2028.
He was elected Pennsylvania's attorney general in 2016, and as governor in 2022.
Authorities have announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of possible addition individuals responsible for this alarming act. Residents are urged to come forward with any information by calling 1-800-4PA TIPS.
