Speeding Driver Sends Truck Into Farmington River, Police Say: 'Tragedy Averted' A speeding Connecticut driver and their passenger narrowly avoided catastrophe over the weekend when the truck they were in crashed into a river, authorities said.  Canton Police Chief Christopher Arciero said the wreck happened just after midnight on Sunday, Dec. 29, after a speeding truck careened off Torrington Avenue and into the Farmington River. CT Firefighter Hurt Battling Weekend Blaze A Connecticut firefighter was injured battling a weekend blaze in Hartford County, authorities said. ' The fire was reported at 730 Hopmeadow St. in Simbury on Saturday evening, Dec. 14. Officials didn't say when the blaze began.  Crews arrived to find the home engulfed in fire and flames licking through the first-floor windows.
