Shell To Close 1,000 Gas Stations: Here's Why, Company Says One of the nation's major oil companies says it will close 1,000 gas stations. Shell made the announcement in its 2024 Energy Transition Strategy report, saying the measure is “in response to customer needs” and aimed at reallocating those resources towards EV charging stations. Norwalk Woman Lights Car On Fire At Stamford Gas Station, Police Say A Fairfield County woman was charged with arson after allegedly setting gasoline that leaked out of her Nissan Cube on fire at a gas station and then walking away.  Paola Monsalve, age 28, of Norwalk was charged in Stamford on Sunday, Dec. 31 around 8:30 p.m. at the Shell station at the corner of Hope and Church streets. Sgt. Damein Rosa of the Stamford Police said the incident started when she left her car while gas was pumping and going inside the store.  When she back out, gasoline had run over and was puddling under the car and still running out, Rosa said.
