Team From CT's Mystic Aquarium Investigating Fatal Whale Stranding: 'This Animal Now At Peace'
A team from Connecticut's Mystic Aquarium is investigating what caused a 25,000-pound fin whale to become stranded in a pond and die as a result. The 42-foot-long whale was discovered stranded at around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29 in Potter Pond in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, according to Mystic Aquarium spokeswoman Meagan Seacor. A third beluga whale from a Canadian amusement park has died at Connecticut's Mystic Aquarium after suffering from an incurable condition. The death of beloved beluga whale Kharabali was announced by New London County's Mystic Aquarium on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Manatee Spotted In Waters Near CT After Traveling Hundreds Of Miles: Here's Where
Officials and scientists are monitoring the first manatee to be spotted in waters off Southern New England in seven years. The manatee was seen in Quonochontaug Pond in Rhode Island, which is located on the state's coastline just over five miles from the Connecticut border, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) announced on Monday, Sept. 11. CT Aquarium Says Another Beluga Whale 'Extremely Ill' Weeks After Another Whale's Death
Mystic Aquarium is reporting that one of its beluga whales has fallen "extremely ill" weeks after the death of another whale at the aquarium. The Connecticut aquarium reported on Tuesday, Aug. 24, that testing revealed that the female whale has low white blood cell count and gastrointestinal issues.
