The fire took place in New London County along the Mystic River around 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Seaport Marina on Washington Street in Mystic.

Driven by high winds, the fire quickly escalated to a four-alarm fire, involved multiple buildings, and caused several to collapse, the Norwich Firefighters Local 892 said.

According to several fire sources, when firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and fire.

Due to the nature of the fire, crews moved to defensive operations and began fighting the fire from outside, officials said.

In addition to the winds, crews had to establish an additional water source and used water from the Mystic River to help extinguish the flames which began at the Marina which housed several boats.

There were no injuries in the fire, said the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce on Facebook.

“The wind was fierce and our firefighters and out-of-town responders worked tirelessly to keep Mystic intact,” the Chamber of Commerce said. “Please keep Seaport Marine in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate thru this major loss.”

Fire crews battled the flames for hours until 2 a.m. when the fire was deemed out, said the Old Mystic Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
