Julio Araud-Figueroa, 39, was arrested inside the couple’s apartment on Lounsbury Street after police said he brutally attacked Yomayra Vargas-Martinez, 39, during a violent argument Tuesday evening, March 11.

Their 19-year-old daughter witnessed the attack and tried to intervene but was unable to stop the stabbing, officials said.

Vargas-Martinez escaped the apartment and ran across the street to a mini-mart on Lounsbury St., desperately seeking help. She did not survive her injuries.

The daughter was not hurt, police said.

Araud-Figueroa was taken into custody inside the apartment without incident and charged with murder. He remains jailed on a $3 million bond, police said.
