Amanda Offerdahl, 27, of Cheshire, was pulled over around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, near Exit 31 in Southington after a state trooper spotted her BMW 430i weaving between lanes and passing traffic at an "extremely high rate of speed," Connecticut State Police said.
As the trooper began pacing the vehicle, Offerdahl allegedly accelerated even more on open stretches of the highway, reaching speeds that police say put both her and other drivers in serious danger.
When asked why she was driving so fast, Offerdahl reportedly admitted she “wanted to see what her car could do” but “could not afford to be on a racetrack,” according to police.
Once stopped, the trooper noticed signs of impairment, including the smell of alcohol and bloodshot eyes, officials said. Offerdahl later admitted she was coming from a bar and had been drinking before getting behind the wheel, police said.
She failed a field sobriety test and was arrested, police said.
Offerdahl was charged with reckless driving, OUI, and failure to maintain proper lane control on a limited-access highway. She was released on a $500 bond, police said.
