Metro-North Service Suspended As Snow Becomes Heavier During Nor'easter Metro-North trains will be temporarily suspending service as the rate of snowfall during the Nor'easter has become heavier, creating potential travel hazards. MTA officials announced that with major snow accumulation and high winds creating increasingly hazardous travel conditions, Metro-North will shut down service with the last trains departing Grand Central Terminal at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1. Fire Breaks Out At Home In Fairfield County Just After Nor'easter Arrives Just as a fierce Nor'easter moved into Fairfield County, firefighters were out battling an early-morning house fire. The fire started around 1:20 a.m., Monday, Feb. 1, at a home on Treat Avenue in Stamford. Firefighters from Stamford Fire Department Engine Co. 6 arrived on the scene in less than four minutes and found a large volume of fire visible at the rear of the structure that was extending into the roofline and interior second floor and attic space, said Stamford FD Deputy Chief Matt Palmer. The latest snowfall projections, released late Sunday afternoon, Jan. 31 by the National Weather Service, indicate parts of the area could see as much as two feet of snowfall. Especially in upstate New York, where the highest snowfall totals were recorded. Litchfield, New York, a town of about 1,500 people located in Herkimer County, about 60 miles east of Syracuse, was walloped with 40 inches of accumulation, with 20 inches falling in a five-hour span overnight.
