Volunteer CT Firefighter Struck, Killed After Trunk-Or-Treat Event A 69-year-old volunteer Connecticut firefighter was killed when he was struck while crossing a dark roadway following a Halloween event. The incident took place in New London County at 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 29 on Route 354,  also known as Old Colchester Road, in the town of Salem. Willis Sands, a member of the Gardner Lake Volunteer Fire Company, was walking across the street to his house, said the Connecticut State Police. Firefighter Dies After Responding To Early Morning Blaze At CT House A Connecticut firefighter has died from injuries he suffered responding to a house fire early in the morning.
