New Haven County resident Kevin Grant, age 33, of Naugatuck, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 10, after new charges surfaced in connection with his Oct. 2020 arrest for subjecting his children to brutal physical punishments.
The new charges were released to police on Friday, May 13, said the Naugatuck Police.
Grant, who is awaiting trial on the original charges, was taken into custody at Superior Court in Waterbury, police said.
The arrest affidavit details numerous horrific instances where Grant’s children, ages ranging from 5 to 11, were abused or made to witness their sibling’s abuse, police said.
Some of these situations include Grant, beating the juvenile victims with a belt to the point where they could not walk. One child was alleged to have been put in the closet as a form of punishment, and when he had to use the bathroom was given a box to use as a bathroom, the affidavit said.
The juvenile victim was then forced by Grant to defecate in the box while locked in the closet and was then made to eat his feces out of the box while his siblings were forced to watch, the affidavit said.
The affidavit also described instances where the siblings were given a bat with thumb tacks on it and forced to hit one another. There were also reports of Grant putting firecrackers in one of the children’s pants and watching as they set off.
Following his arrest, he was charged with:
- Reckless endangerment
- Risk of injury to a child
- Intentional cruelty to persons
Grant was released on a $50,000 court-issued bond.
