A popular Connecticut zoo has announced the tragic death of a much-loved golden lion tamarin who died after an unviable birth. On Thursday, March 7, The Beardsley Zoo, located in the Fairfield County city of Bridgeport, announced the death of Cricket, a 6-year-old golden lion tamarin. According to the zoo, Cricket died immediately after an unviable birth. Per the zoo's standard practices and procedures, a post-mortem examination was then conducted at the site and samples were sent for further testing, a spokesperson said. A popular Connecticut zoo is having a bananas time after welcoming two new spider monkeys. On Thursday, July 28, Beardsley Zoo, located in Fairfield County, announced the arrival of two female Black-handed spider monkeys, expanding its spider monkey habitat to four monkeys. Bertha, age 30, and 16-year-old Janet traveled from the Montgomery Zoo in Alabama to join the zoo in Bridgeport. Fairfield County Native Shot To Death At Age 35 Remembered As 'Kind, Gentle Person'
Family and friends are remembering a Connecticut man who was shot to death at his home. New Haven County resident Justin Spray, of Milford, died at the age of 35 on Wednesday, May 25, after he was shot “by a mentally ill person with a gun at his home,” his obituary said. Police had been called to his home on Edgefield Avenue just before 1 p.m. with reports of a fight and possible gunfire, according to Milford Police. Fairfield County's Beardsley Zoo Mourns Death Of Beloved Red Panda Rochan At Age 7
Connecticut is in mourning after a family member at the Beardsley Zoo in Fairfield County had to be put down amid a health scare. On Friday, Feb. 25, a spokesperson for the Bridgeport zoo announced that Rochan, a 7-year-old male red panda died the previous week after suffering health complications. Rochan was being monitored and treated for a condition affecting his ability to walk prior to his death, officials said, and an MRI found lesions on his spine, which further compromised his mobility.
