'Mayday': Firefighters Forced Out Of Burning Southington House Before Beating Back Flames It was a harrowing moment for Connecticut firefighters when an early morning fire sent them scrambling to escape a burning home when conditions took a turn for the worse while they were inside, authorities said.  Firefighters were called to a house fire around 3:15 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26 at 25 Howard Ave. in Southington. A light fixture in the basement had sparked and sent flames creeping through the home. School Bus Catches Fire In Bridgeport All people aboard a Fairfield County school bus were able to get off safely when the vehicle caught fire. The fire occurred in Bridgeport around 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, at Jones Avenue and Oak Street. According to Tiadora Josef, the Bridgeport Fire Department spokeswoman, the first responding units confirmed the bus was engulfed in flames. "Everyone was off the bus when units responded," she said.
