Poop Problem: Nearly 90% Of CT Beaches Tested Unsafe In 2024, New Study Says More than half of all East Coast beaches had potentially unsafe levels of fecal contamination at least once in 2024, according to researchers. The advocacy group Environment America released its new study about the water quality at US beaches on Monday, July 7. The nonprofit compiled bacteria testing data from states bordering oceans and the Great Lakes, along with Puerto Rico. Stay Out Of Water: CT Sewer Line Break Sends Raw Sewage Into Connecticut River A major sewer line in East Windsor has broken, spilling raw sewage into the Connecticut River and prompting an urgent warning from environmental officials. More than 300,000 gallons of untreated sewage are expected to flow into the river each day until the line can be repaired, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) said. The break occurred near 249 S. Water St., right by the riverbank. Emergency crews are on-site and working quickly to fix the problem, but the leak is still ongoing.
