Oscars: Michael B. Jordan Wins Best Actor For 'Sinners'
Michael B. Jordan, a native of Newark, won Best Actor at the 98th annual Academy Awards on Sunday, March 15.
Jordan won for "Sinners", where he played two identical twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, as they open a juke joint in Mississippi, only to have it overrun by vampires.
He grew up in Newark, graduating from Newark Arts High School, appearing in locally shot productions like "Cosby" and "The Sopranos", before landing a three-year run on "All My Children."
This was Jordan's first Oscar nomination.

Charley Scalies, a popular actor renowned for his roles in HBO’s acclaimed series The Wire and The Sopranos, has died.
He was 84.
Scalies died on Thursday, May 1, in a nursing facility located in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease, according to his obituary.
In his notable role as Thomas “Horseface” Pakusa, Scalies appeared in all 12 episodes of The Wire’s second season, which aired in 2003.
