NFL Prospect Kyren Lacy Found Dead Hours Before Facing Grand Jury In Fatal Crash

Kyren Lacy, 24, died in Houston, his family confirmed, and is a suspected suicide victim, according to multiple reports.

Once considered a possible first-round pick, the former Tiger was accused of the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed Herman Hall in December before he ultimately turned himself in on Jan. 12.

Lacy was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death and reckless operation of a vehicle.

A grand jury was to begin hearing evidence in that case on Monday, April 14.

According to investigators, Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger south on LA Highway 20 when he began passing multiple cars by crossing into the northbound lane—illegally, in a marked No-Passing Zone.

To avoid a head-on collision, a northbound pickup truck swerved right. A 2017 Kia Cadenza behind that truck swerved left—crossing into the southbound lane and slamming head-on into a 2017 Kia Sorento.

Lacy did not stop, police said.

Instead, investigators say he drove around the crash scene and fled south without rendering aid, calling 911, or reporting the crash.

Hall was a passenger in the Kia. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives later identified Lacy as the driver of the Dodge Charger involved in the crash, a warrant was issued, and he surrendered to police.

Lacy's lawyer said that the former football star was expected to have the charges dropped, according to a WAFB report.

"Kyren’s was scheduled to have his matter heard before a grand jury tomorrow wherein we were very confident the evidence, after being fully collected and reviewed, would lead to a declination of charges," he reportedly said in a statement.

"From the very beginning, this so-called investigation took on the appearance of an overzealous, targeted effort—what can only be described as a witch hunt—fueled by who Kyren was and the public profile he carried.

"The decision by the investigating agency to charge him at all, in our view, was not only unjustified, it was disturbing."

Lacy declared for the NFL draft on Dec. 19, two days after the crash, and did not play in LSU's win over Baylor in the Texas Bowl, though he was a participant last month at the LSU pro day.
