Joint Investigation Leads To Arrest Of 'High-Impact' Trafficker Of Drugs, Firearms From CT
Police have arrested a 24-year-old man who investigators believe is a high-impact trafficker of drugs and firearms.
Luis Ortiz, from Worcester, Massachusetts and Putnam, Connecticut, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 17, at a home in Worcester following an investigation.
Police said Ortiz was charged with gun and narcotics offenses, including the illegal sale of firearms, ammunition, and fentanyl.
The investigation into Ortiz's activities began in January after troopers received information that he was illegally in possession of firearms, authorities said.

Police are charging an 18-year-old boy with murder for the killing of a 17-year-old boy earlier this year.
On Friday, Nov. 20, police arrested Messiah Amankwah, 18, of Worcester and charged with murder in the shooting death of a boy in October, police said.
*A second man has been charged in connection to the killing. On Saturday, Nov. 21, police arrested Lopez Carrasco, 23, of Spencer, and charged him with accessory after the fact to murder, police said.

Police ID Hotspots For Car Break-Ins, Thefts
Car break-ins have gone up 50 percent in Worcester compared to this same time last year, according to police.
Last September, 217 vehicles were reportedly broken into in Worcester, police said.
In the previous year, September 2019, there had been 73 fewer car break-ins, police said, with 144 thefts reported.
Thefts have been concentrated in a few areas, creating hotspots in the city, Worcester Police said.

Dog Used To Lure 11-Year-Old Girl In Kidnap Attempt; Accomplice Still At-Large
Police have arrested a suspect in the attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl.
On Sunday, Oct. 18, Worcester Police received a report around 8 p.m. that a man had attempted to abduct a girl, who was able to escape and run to a nearby business for help, police said.
Andrew Merriam, 51, of Hudson, was arrested and charged with enticing a child, attempt to commit a crime, and assault and battery, police said.
