Dead Deer Reported In CT Towns, 3 Test Positive For Hemorrhagic Disease, Officials Say
State officials announced that three white-tailed deer tested positive for hemorrhagic disease, as dead deer have been found across multiple towns in Connecticut. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced on Wednesday, Sept. 28, that the first positive case this year came from a deer found in the Litchfield County town of Goshen. For the first time, researchers are uncovering disconcerting evidence that COVID-19 is spreading amongst the deer population, which could spell trouble for humans. A new study has found widespread COVID-19 infections among deer populations in Iowa. Researchers from the Penn State University found that more than 80 percent of white-tailed deer sampled in parts of Iowa between December of 2020 and January of 2021 tested positive for COVID-19, according to an announcement from the university on Wednesday, Nov. 3. “We found that 80 percent of the sampled deer in December were positive for SARS-CoV-2, which proportionally represents about a 50-fold greater burden of positivity than what was reported at the peak of infection in humans at the time,” said Sur…

Deer with a fatal brain disease have made their way near the New York border, officials are cautioning. Rare Virus Killing Deer In Parts Of Region
Dozens of dead white-tailed deer found at separate locations in parts of the region are now being linked to a rare virus. After conducting tests, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) confirmed that several white-tailed deer in the towns of Nelsonville and Cold Spring in Putnam County and near Goshen in Orange County died after contracting Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD).
