Stranded, Seething: 2.5K Southwest Flight Cancellations Leave Passengers In Post-Christmas Mess
More than 2,500 Southwest Airlines flights were canceled and 8,3072 delayed as of Wednesday, Dec. 28, leaving even more passengers across the US stranded and seething. Processes and computer systems that haven't changed since the 1990s are to blame, Captain Casey Murray, the president of the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, tells CNN. “It’s phones, it’s computers, it’s processing power, it’s the programs used to connect us to airplanes," he said, "that’s where the problem lies, and it’s systemic throughout the whole airline." Fairfield County Native Named US Merchant Marine Academy's First Female Superintendent
A woman from Fairfield County has been selected as the Long Island-based US Merchant Marine Academy's first female superintendent, the US Department of Transportation and the Maritime Administration announced. Rear Admiral Joanna M. Nunan, who is originally from Bridgeport, has been selected for the position at the academy located on Long Island, in Kings Point. Nunan graduated from the New London, Connecticut-based Coast Guard Academy in 1987 and also received her master's degree in Business Administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic, according to a report by Safety4Sea. Police Arrested For Embezzling Taxpayer Funds In Overtime Scheme
Nine Massachusetts Police Officers have been arrested in connection with an overtime fraud scheme that allegedly bilked taxpayers out of $200,000. The police were arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 2, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Massachusetts. The officers arrested are retired and still on the force. They are: Lt.
