Don’t fall for it. Police in Connecticut are warning residents to be on the lookout for scammers who are impersonating law enforcement officers. In Fairfield County, the Greenwich Police Department issued a warning Friday, July 12, that residents have received phone calls from a “Detective Steve McMorris” about purported outstanding summons. Man Nabbed 7 Years After Raping CT Woman While Posing As Cop, Police Say
After seven years, a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in Connecticut while posing as a police officer has been caught. Niamkey Amichia, age 33, of Pierce County, Washington, wanted for a New Haven County sexual assault in Waterbury in Nov. 2016, was arrested by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department for an unrelated sexual assault. Scammers Target Businesses By Posing As Springfield Police
One Western Massachusetts police department is alerting residents to a new scam that has impacted at least one local business. The Springfield Police Department's Detective Bureau warns local businesses should be aware that scammers are spoofing the department's phone number and impersonating police department personnel seeking money from businesses. Fairfield County Woman Arrested By Capitol Police Found After Silver Alert Issued
A Fairfield County woman arrested for allegedly impersonating a police officer at a Capitol security checkpoint put in place for the Presidential Inauguration has been found safe after a Silver Alert was issued when she disappeared. Linda MaGovern, age 63, of Stratford, was located in Maryland, said Stratford Police Captain Frank A. Eannotti. The Silver Alert was issued by Stratford Police on Wednesday, Jan. 27, after MaGovern failed to return home after being released from custody following a psychiatric evaluation.
