Fitch High School moved its game against Norwich Free Academy from Thursday, Oct. 17, to Friday, Oct. 18, after students at Fitch told the school's resource officer about the threat posted to social media, Groton Police said.

After first learning of the post, Groton Police said they would increase security at the game, but after more "safety concerns arising from social media posts” were uncovered, police and school officials decided to postpone the match until 4 p.m. Friday.

Police also implemented several security measures. Those include:

  • Each varsity player can identify four family members to watch the game. They must still purchase a ticket
  • All named spectators must have a photo ID along with their ticket.
  • Norwich Free Academy and Fitch High School students can attend the game, but they must bring a current school-issued ID. Fitch students will be checked in at the upper gate, and Norwich students at the lower gate.
  • Tickets can be purchased at https://gofan.co/event/1701500?schoolId=CT17460.
  • Tickets already purchased will be validated on GoFan.co.

The change was "out of an abundance of caution," and investigators do not believe the threat came from someone associated with the schools.
