‘Explosive’ Whale Carcass Washes Ashore On NY Beach, Vessel Strike Suspected A massive whale found dead along a Queens shoreline showed signs of a violent impact, officials said. A necropsy was completed on the 45-foot male sei whale that washed ashore on Rockaway Beach on Thursday, March 26, according to AMSEAS biologists. The examination found the whale was in good body condition and had recently eaten, as food was present in its digestive tract, officials said.
