Fiery CT Crash Leaves Driver Dead, Police Searching For Answers
A driver died in a fiery crash earlier this week after their car erupted in flames, police said.
The crash was reported around 9 p.m. Thursday, March 27, on Mashamoquet Road (Route 44) near the intersection with Paine Road in Pomfret, according to Connecticut State Police.
The Subaru reportedly crossed the double-yellow line, veered onto the westbound shoulder, and left the roadway before crashing into a tree, police said. The impact sent the vehicle tumbling down an embankment, where it landed upside down and caught fire.

Transmission Defect Could Lock Up Wheels, Prompting Massive Cadillac, Chevy Recall
A transmission defect in more than 90,000 Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles could cause the front wheels to lock up while driving, increasing crash risks, officials said.
The recall affects about 90,081 2019-2020 Cadillac CT6, 2020-2021 Cadillac CT4 and CT5, and 2020-2022 Chevrolet Camaro models equipped with a 10-speed transmission, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. According to NHTSA, internal transmission damage could lead to sudden wheel lock-up, creating a serious hazard for drivers.

More than six months after a driver struck a pedestrian in New Haven County and sped off, leaving the victim hospitalized with critical injuries, police say they have made an arrest.
Nathan Medina, 23, of Waterbury, was arrested Sunday, Feb. 23, and accused of a hit-and-run that seriously injured a 22-year-old man in August 2024, authorities said.
