Gennesse Alicea, of Southbridge, Massachusetts, was riding in a Hyundai Elantra that collided with a UPS tractor-trailer near Exit 71 in Willington at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, according to Connecticut State Police.

An initial investigation found that the Hyundai clipped the truck's front bumper while changing lanes, causing the car to spin out of control and stop in the center lane, police said.

Alicea sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The car's driver, a 33-year-old man from Holland, Massachusetts, was taken to Hartford Hospital with possible injuries, state police said.

The truck driver, from Worcester, Massachusetts, was not injured.

Police closed a portion of I-84 in Tolland County for more than an hour as they cleaned, cleared, and investigated the scene.

State police are investigating the crash and urge witnesses or anyone with information to contact Trooper Michael Honeywell at 860-896-3200 or michael.honeywell@ct.gov.
