Officer Dies, Gunman Takes Staff Hostage In PA Hospital Shooting: Officials
West York Borough Police Officer Andrew Duarte was killed in the line of duty on Saturday, Feb. 22, after a gunman opened fire and took staff hostage inside the ICU at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York County, authorities said.
The shooter, identified as Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz, entered the hospital around 10:35 a.m. with a bag containing a semiautomatic handgun and zip ties, according to York County District Attorney Timothy Barker. He proceeded to the ICU, where he held staff hostage and shot a doctor, nurse, and custodian, Barker said.

A Connecticut woman accused of opening fire inside the Bristol Police Department lobby has taken a plea deal, officials said.
Suzanne Laprise, 51, of Plainville, pleaded guilty in New Britain Court in connection with the October 6, 2023, shooting inside the station, Bristol Police Chief Mark Morello said in a statement. Laprise admitted to a charge of an attempt to commit assault.
Laprise arrived at the police department at 11:38 p.m. on Oct. 5, 2023, after drinking at a bar in Bristol, according to an investigation by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG).

A 56-year-old Connecticut man was shot and killed after shouting at strangers in an apartment building and waving a machete, authorities said.
John Reynolds, of New Haven, was killed around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, in the Bella Vista Apartments at 321 Eastern St. in New Haven, police said.
Several people called 911 to report Reynolds was banging on apartment doors and waving a machete, authorities said.
