3.8 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Connecticut, Multiple Other States The US Geological Survey said a 3.8 magnitude earthquake shook much of the Northeast on Monday, Jan. 27. The quake occurred at 10:45 a.m. and was initially reported as a 4.1 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was located near York Harbor, approximately seven miles off the coast of Maine and about 13 miles underground. Such a quake is likely not powerful enough to cause any structural damage but can be strong enough for residents to feel the ground shake.
