Fitbit will pay more than $12 million for failing to promptly report that its Ionic smartwatches posed serious burn risks, officials said. Fitbit LLC, which is now owned by Google, has been fined $12.25 million to settle claims by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the federal agency said in a news release on Thursday, Jan. 23. The defect caused the Ionic smartwatches to overheat, leading to second- and third-degree burns for some users. Couple Drank, Did Drugs Rather Than Take Burned Baby To Hospital: Police
A Connecticut mother and step-father of a 6-month-old baby have been arrested and charged with delaying getting care for the boy after it suffered second- and third-degree burns so they could get high, authorities said. Keturah Williams, age 36, and Damon Martin, age 51, both of Waterbury, were charged with risk of injury and impairing morals of a child and cruelty to a person, police said. Steam Cleaners Sold Nationwide Recalled Due To Burn Risk
Millions of steam cleaners that may be too hot to handle and were sold nationwide are being recalled after more than 150 burn injuries were reported. An alert was issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advising that BISSELL Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners are being recalled, which can leak hot water or steam onto users, posing a possible burn hazard. Approximately 3.2 million units are subject to the recall. According to CPSC, the recall includes multiple models in the model series 39N7 and 2994.
