At Least 28 Killed As Severe Storms, Tornadoes Tear Through Central, Eastern US
A wave of severe weather has resulted in tragedy as multiple tornadoes swept across the central and eastern United States, claiming at least 28 lives, injuring dozens more, and leaving as many as a half-million without power.
The event unfolded late Friday, May 16, into Saturday, May 17, leaving a path of destruction across Missouri, Kentucky, and Virginia. Officials say the death toll could rise as they assessed the damage.
Southeastern Kentucky has been particularly hard-hit, reporting 21 fatalities, according to CBS affiliate WKYT in Lexington.

Burberry is cutting more than 1,500 jobs worldwide after the British luxury fashion brand saw a steep drop in profits.
The company will lay off about 1,700 workers by 2027, Burberry said in an earnings report on Wednesday, May 14. The job cuts are part of a broader restructuring plan, aiming to save 100 million British pounds.
The cuts will come from operational expenses, including procurement, real estate, and staffing. Burberry said the changes are "subject to consultation where applicable."

President Donald Trump says gas is down to $1.98 a gallon, but that number doesn't exist at any pump in the country.
