The Atlantic is heating up again, with a new potential hurricane poised to form and another close behind. It's a one‑two punch that could steer rough seas toward Bermuda and the East Coast. Tropical Storm Gabrielle Forms In Atlantic
A new tropical storm has developed in the Atlantic. The National Hurricane Center announced late Wednesday morning, Sept. 17 that a system that had earlier been designated as Tropical Depression Seven has strengthened to become Tropical Storm Gabrielle. Gabrielle is located about halfway between Africa and the eastern Caribbean with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. It is forecast to stay over open water for the next several days. A broad disturbance in the central Atlantic is quickly organizing and now has a high chance of becoming the season’s next tropical depression or named storm, forecasters said. With the Atlantic entering its most volatile stretch of the season, forecasters say a tropical system has a high chance of developing late this week. Three areas are being monitored for the potential to become the next named tropical storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, with one of them having a strong chance.
