Boat Flips In New England Leaving 2 NY Women Killed, 1 In Critical Condition: Officials
Two Long Island women were killed and another critically injured when a pontoon boat flipped on Flagstaff Lake in Maine, officials announced on Saturday, Aug. 30.
Farhana Nasir, 53, of Selden, and Kiran Akbar, 23, of Lake Grove, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Maine officials.
The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. when seven people left their dock in a 2024 18-foot Sea-Doo Switch Pontoon boat, investigators said. The group was boating near the Cathedral Pines Campground when the bow began to dip underwater.

Four Connecticut men spent nearly an hour holding onto the hull of their overturned boat in the Long Island Sound before being rescued by Suffolk County Marine Bureau officers, authorities said.
The 20-foot center console power boat capsized near Stratford Shoal—the middle ground of the Sound— on Sunday, July 13, according to Suffolk County Police.
The men, who were not wearing life jackets, had launched from Stratford, CT, and were found clinging to the partially submerged vessel around 12:07 a.m., police said.
