State Orders CT Nursing Home To Move All Residents After Woman Found Dead Outside
A Connecticut nursing home must move all of its residents to other facilities after state officials found serious safety concerns following a woman's death last month. The Connecticut Department of Social Services ordered Bickford Health Care Center in Windsor Locks to transfer every patient to other facilities by April 10. The order comes about a month after a 93-year-old resident was found dead outside the building on Feb. 8. Holocaust Survivor Bludgeoned To Death At NYC Nursing Home By Dementia Patient, Police Say
A 95-year-old woman has been charged with murder after allegedly beating a fellow resident and Holocaust survivor to death inside a Brooklyn nursing home. Galina Smirnova, 95, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 16, and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of 89-year-old Nina Kravtsov, an NYPD spokesperson told Daily Voice. A rise in dementia cases could be linked to Americans' appetite for one of its favorite foods. Findings suggest that rising dementia cases in the US may be linked to a preference for meats. Ex-CT Police Chief Dies After Long Illness: 'To Know Him Was To Know Love'
The longest-serving police chief in Connecticut history died last week at his home surrounded by his family, police in Hartford County said. Former Windsor Police Chief Kevin C. Searles fought a long battle with dementia and died from the disease on Thursday, Nov. 7, his obituary said. Searles worked for the Plainville Police Department, rising to the rank of detective, before taking the top cop job in Windsor in 1987. He held the position for 28 years.
