S'mores Started Massive Brush Fire Outside Hamptons, Officials Say
A family attempting to make s’mores in their backyard accidentally sparked several brush fires that burned hundreds of acres on Long Island, authorities said. A historic Connecticut home built in 1800 went up in flames Sunday morning, Feb. 23, killing several cats and displacing a family, authorities said. Firefighters were called to the 6,000-square-foot 139 Hartford Road home in Manchester just before 1 a.m. Crews from multiple companies battled the blaze for 40 minutes before getting the flames under control, Manchester authorities said. CT Police ID 67-Year-Old Man Found Dead Inside Burning Car
Police have identified the 67-year-old man who was found dead inside a burning vehicle over the weekend. Roger Dailey, of Middletown, was located inside the vehicle at Riverport Park in Cromwell on Sunday, Feb. 16, police said. Multiple people called 911 to report the blaze off River Road. Firefighters didn't find Dailey's body until they had put out the blaze, Cromwell police said. It's unclear what sparked the blaze. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the death accidental.
