FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for southern Fairfield County from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Southern winds between 20 and 30 mph are expected, with gusts as high as 45 to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The winds are expected to develop Tuesday morning and continue through the evening, ending from west to east a night.

Gusts could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few isolated power outages may result. Travel will be impacted over bridges and overpasses. Drivers should exercise caution.

The wind is expected to be accompanied by heavy rain throughout the day for the entire county. The region could see 2 to 3 inches of rain, with localized swaths of 3 to 5 inches possible. This creates an areawide threat for minor urban and small stream flooding, as well as a localized threat for flash flooding.
