The weather on Monday was interesting to say the least in Wilton. The day began with beautiful blue skies and temperatures approaching 90 degrees. By midafternoon rain clouds blocked the sun and showers began.
Not too surprisingly, the number of people at Merwin Meadows Park through the course of the day mirrored the weather. N the morning, there were roughly 110 people at the park, but that number dwindled to about 10 once the rain came, Gordon Thompson the waterfront director for the park said this evening.
"We want to see people here enjoying the park, it keeps us busy, but at the same time it is a nice break," Thompson said describing the mix of emotions the staff at Merwin Meadows had toward rain. "Mother Nature did just right," she added.
The 100 people or so that left Merwin Meadows were not the only ones affected negatively by the weather on Monday. Some would possibly describe them as lucky for being able to be at the pond at all during the morning and early afternoon heat.
Wilton resident Jack Dimmack was visibly sweating and had his pants rolled slightly above his calf as he made his way through the Wilton Campus Shops on his way to Starbucks to get a cold drink before going to work at Rolling Hills Country Club. Dimmack said he wished that the weather of Wilton was more like the weather in England, his native country.
After spending the past weekend at Block Island, Sharon Weand came home to an empty house and needed to run errands instead of enjoying the weather she loves. "My thought is, is that we'll be looking for this weather in January," Weand said.
